Karnataka is planning something big! “Western Ghats on Wheels” is an exciting new project in the state. It is India’s first mobile biodiversity museum, which aims to bring the magic of the Western Ghats rainforests directly to students and tourists without them having to travel to a forest. Here’s what we know so far.
Karnataka To Launch “Western Ghats On Wheels?”
Museums are a perfect way to learn about history, nature or, in general, any topic in the world. And now, the Karnataka government is all set to launch India’s first mobile biodiversity museum. According to The New Indian Express, “Western Ghats on Wheels” will be set up inside a Volvo bus. It will travel across the state, including rural areas, and cater to different sections of society.
The bus has been approved for the mobile museum, and the project will launch in the next six months. Planned at a cost of ₹1 crore, the project is truly unique. Reportedly, Volvo is also donating a 15-metre 9600 Series model multi-axle luxury coach for this one-of-a-kind mobile museum.

What Will Tourists Get To See Inside This Moving Museum?
Now, let’s talk about what tourists will get to witness inside the bus. According to The New Indian Express, interactive and holographic screens will be installed inside to showcase the wildlife, waterfalls and forests of the Western Ghats. In addition, the bus will operate using roof-mounted solar panels to ensure a zero-carbon footprint.
Inside, there will be three sections. The two sides will be used as corridors, occupying three-fourths of the bus, with interactive displays. The remaining space will be used for seating and discussions. Officials are also planning to display theme-based, life-sized models inside.
Images and videos used to create virtual experiences of the Western Ghats will be sourced from different places. To ensure that children remain attentive, there will also be graphic and animation-based displays.
