Airports are among the busiest places, with thousands of people arriving and departing every day. Some rush to catch their flights, while others have just landed. With such heavy daily footfall, security arrangements need to be top-notch. Now, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) wants to take airport security a step further with facial recognition technology at Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata airports. CISF Plans Security Upgrade At Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai & Kolkata Airports
To make airport security smarter, the CISF wants to bring facial recognition cameras to some of India’s busiest airports. For now, this plan includes Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. As per Hindustan Times, since airports like Bengaluru and Hyderabad also handle massive crowds every day, the force has suggested adding them to the list as well. All that remains now is a green signal from the Union Home Ministry.
While speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new CISF headquarters in New Delhi on Monday, CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan shared the future plans for airport security. He said the CISF wants to set up an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) to monitor airports and other important installations. As part of this plan, he also proposed introducing facial recognition technology at selected airports.

How This Proposed Facial Recognition Technology Will Work?
If you’re curious to know how this technology will work, we’ve got the details for you. Hindustan Times reported that according to officials, the cameras will scan faces at the airport and match them with photographs already available in government databases. The information will then be sent to the CISF’s Integrated Command and Control Centre, where it can be checked alongside data from national security platforms, including NATGRID.
This technology could be really helpful, as security agencies would be able to identify suspects more quickly. However, nothing has been finalised yet, and several discussions are still taking place. Authorities plan to install the cameras at key locations such as entry and exit points, where all passengers and visitors must pass through.
