Indian Railways: Budget Meals To Vending Trolleys, General Second Class Train Travel To Improve

If you’ve ever had the misfortune of having to travel through the unreserved compartment of the Indian Railways, you know how terribly awful it gets. The compartment is usually crowded more than double or triple its actual capacity and the journey is extremely uncomfortable. Keeping this in mind, the officials of Indian Railways or IR have decided to take measures to improve the situation. This means that travelling in the unreserved compartment is about to get a whole lot easier.

One of the reasons why people hate travelling in the unreserved compartment is that it is extremely crowded. What is more, if you’ve travelled in these compartments, you know that there is a complete disregard for hygiene and cleanliness.

Part of this is due to the overcrowding that these compartments are subjected to. In an effort to improve the situation for those who either cannot afford to travel in other compartments or had to make urgent travel plans, Indian Railways have issued new directives.

As per the new directives issued by the officials of Indian Railways, affordable meals are to be made accessible to the people travelling in the unreserved compartment. Furthermore, it has also appointed an On-Board Housekeeping Staff or OBHS to clean the bogeys at regular intervals.

The telos behind such a move is to improve the overall quality of experience of travelling unreserved class. Having the bogeys cleaned at regular intervals will ensure that the journey isn’t as unpleasant for the passengers as it otherwise might have been.

Since the unreserved bogeys are placed at either end of the train, IR has issued instructions to install booths for drinking water on both ends of the platforms so that passengers may avail of it. This will aid those who cannot or don’t want to purchase bottled water from counters.

It has also instructed that vending trolleys with affordable meals are to be placed near the unreserved compartments so that passengers can access healthy and cost-effective food during their travel.
