The next time you go on a train journey, it’s not the scenic views that will hold your attention. It’s the beautiful handicrafts created by local artisans. Indian Railways has launched ‘One Station One Product’ policy to promote one local product at each railway station. Here’s everything about it.
Purchase Food, Handicrafts & Other Items Onboard Trains
Earlier, hawkers would enter trains to sell food products. But this was later curbed as it raised safety and hygiene concerns. But now, in order to empower local vendors and boost tourism, Indian Railways will allow them to sell products inside trains. This can range from food, household, decorative to even handicraft items.
Indian Railways To Give Vendors Designer Carts To Sell Products
And that’s not all, Indian Railways will even equip them with designer carts and kiosks to sell their products on stations and trains. National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad will be designing the kiosks on wheels for the vendors to store and sell their goods. So passengers can expect to gorge on authentic dhoklas and fafdas at Ahmedabad station and even Channapatna wooden toys in Srirangapatna. Vendors will have permission to board trains and travel up to one station while offering goods to passengers onboard.
