On Sunday, Union Railways Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw inaugurated India’s first aluminum freight rake at Bhubaneshwar railway station. It is the railway’s first indigenous aluminum freight rake, lighter than its predecessor but with a higher payload. The aluminum freight rake’s (-61BORRNALHSM1) destination is Bilaspur. This is an effort dedicated to the ‘Make in India’ program. It is designed and developed entirely in collaboration with RDSO, HINDALCO, and Besco Wagon.

The aluminum freight rake is fully bolted with no welding to the body. The dead weight is 3.25 tons lower than a standard steel rake, and the lifting capacity is 180 tons more. In fact, the decreased tare weight means less skyward fuel consumption and more cargo is transported when loaded, thus reducing the carbon footprint. Also, it has a higher resale value as the entire body is made of aluminum.
As per reports, this aluminum freight rake is designed by the Aditya Birla Group. Meanwhile, the renovation work of the Bhubaneswar station will start soon. Union Minister Vaishnaw claimed that the station will be renovated soon to offer a world-class experience.

This Rake Is Eco Friendly
The biggest benefit of this aluminium freight is that it is environmentally friendly. The Ministry claimed that it has a high payload-to-empty weight ratio of 2.85. This means it consumes less fuel in the air direction and transports cargo when loaded, thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions. One screen can save him more than 14,500 tons of CO2 over its lifetime.
It has the added benefit of saving maintenance costs due to its high resistance to corrosion and wear.
