No matter how many countries we travel to, India’s heritage never ceases to amaze us. To embrace Bhopal’s culture and heritage, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, recently stayed at Jehan Numa Palace in Bhopal. To say the least, her stay was nothing short of a royal sojourn, immersing her in the rich history and exquisite hospitality that the palace-turned-hotel had to offer.

Nestled on the slopes of Shyamla Hills and steeped in history since its construction in 1890 by General Obaidullah Khan, the Palace seamlessly blends British Colonial, Italian Renaissance, and Classical Greek architecture. The vibrant floral surroundings, adorned with bougainvillea, Champa, and palm trees, set the stage for a majestic experience.

Kamiya stayed in the opulent Imperial Room which usually costs ₹11,000/night, where balconies and large picture windows provide a spectacular view of the swimming pool and the horse-riding track. Yes, the track is right outside for you to be in awe of.

The 25-metre open-air swimming pool, bordered by lush greenery, palm trees, and blooming flowers, offers a truly refreshing retreat. Witnessing the thoroughbred horses’ morning and evening exercises around the pool definitely adds an extra touch of elegance. Perfection and elegance truly come together to enhance this palace hotel’s grandeur.

The pinnacle of Kamiya’s culinary experience was undoubtedly at the ‘General’s Table’. A separate dining arrangement, the General’s Table, treated her to a lavish eight-course meal. This opulent feast, unlike any other, featured over 20 scrumptious dishes, inspired by the culinary legacy of General Obaidullah Khan.

This extravagant affair also shed light on the palace’s history and its commitment to royal living. The notably traditional yet unique menu was influenced by recipes passed down from the Begums of Bhopal. It certainly offered an authentic culinary experience.

Jehan Numa Palace’s commitment to preserving the rich heritage of Bhopal extends to the Shergar Bar, an exemplary safari lounge. The walls here are covered with pictures from their book, ‘Tales from the Bush’, offering a sneak peek into the untamed wildlife thriving within the Satpura Tiger Reserve.

The irresistible culinary offerings of this beautiful hotel don’t end here. The four restaurants and two bars, Shahnama, La Kuchina, Under The Mango Tree, Cafechino, Tao, and Shergar Bar, each have their unique charm. A medley of colonial-style architecture with a modern twist, the Shahnama restaurant offers true luxury. Le Kuchina, on the other hand, is an impressive Italian restaurant with an open-kitchen concept.

Beyond the culinary delights, Jehan Numa Palace Hotel pampers guests with a wide range of amenities. From the Fitness Centre overlooking the pool to the sauna and Jacuzzi facilities, everything promises a retreat for both body and mind.

The overall experience at Jehan Numa Palace showcased a perfect blend of history, luxury, and hospitality, making it an unforgettable stay for Kamiya Jani.
