The total cost of the Sigandur Bridge project is approximately ₹423 crore and is a significant infrastructure project in Karnataka. It will ease travel and significantly reduce travel time. Currently, people have to travel about 80 km by road to reach Sagar town from Sigandur or Tumari. Once the Sigandur Cable Stayed Bridge is operational, it will reduce the distance by half.

Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the Sigandur Bridge on February 19, 2018. Once the bridge opens for traffic, people of the Tumari region and pilgrims heading to Sigandur Chowdeshwari temple will not have to use large ferries to reach their destinations. Furthermore, the distance between Kollur in Udupi district and Sagar would be reduced.
As per reports, the bridge is constructed using 17 piers and two abutments. For context, a regular bridge would have needed around 100 piers. This is because cable-stayed bridges offer greater stiffness than suspension bridges. The vertical loads on the deck are supported by diagonal cables that transfer the loads from the deck to the towers.
