The next time you visit the gorgeous state of Kerala, enjoy a unique dining experience in a double-decker bus. Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) has launched the ‘Foodie Wheels’ cafe on the Vaikom backwaters to boost tourism and also re-use old buses of the state transport authority KSRTC. Here’s everything you need to know about this one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Dine In A Double Decker Bus At Kerala’s Foodies Cafe

The gorgeous Foodies Cafe, set up in a reused double-decker bus features an air-conditioned lower deck and an open-air cafe on the upper deck. This was inaugurated by State Tourism Minister P A Mohammad Riyas and Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju. Gorge on delicious regional cuisine in a double-decker bus while enjoying the panoramic view of the Vaikom backwaters. Raju revealed in his Facebook post that the Foodies Cafe is one of the projects to convert and re-use useless KSRTC  buses.

Enjoy Delicious Food & Soak In Panoramic View Of Vaikom Backwaters

To create this unique cafe, an old KSRTC bus was procured and an upper deck was added. The bus was tastefully decorated and set up at a dumping yard near motel Aaram. According to a report by The Hindu. the concept was inspired by Sayahna, the KSTDC run Hotel Mascot in Thiruvananthapuram. The premises of Foodies Cafe got a landscaped makeover, just like the garden restaurant of Sayahna.

It cost ₹35-lakhs to repurpose the bus and create an attractive tourist spot in the backwaters of Vaikom. Meanwhile, check out why and how Kerala emerged as the top trending destination globally.
