India and Bangladesh have a very dark past regarding 1971. These two nations have, time and again, tried to develop a friendly relationship. And this time by organising a Bangladesh Rice Festival. While some might not recognise its importance, scientifically, every crop has a type based on the region it is grown in. Similarly, the rice that Bangladesh produces have its own variation. The Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Andalib Elias, took the initiative to organise such an event.

The idea behind organising the Rice Festival in Kolkata was to display the different types of rice grown in our neighboring country. Andalib Elias believes food to be a great way to increase friendship and trade with other countries. Cultural exchange can be a way of understanding each other despite differences. Besides the rice exhibition, Bangladesh is planning to bring chefs for the purpose of creating traditional Bangladesh cuisine at the festival. However, the budget and date are not known yet.
