Besides yellow taxis, one of the most iconic modes of transportation in Kolkata is the tramcar. And it has been plying on the streets of ancient Kolkata since 1902. And now, the city peeps can dine inside a tram too. Kolkata Streetfood has launched an outlet in Kolkata’s Newtown by refurbishing an old tram compartment into a quaint eatery. Among food, it serves a variety of Kolkata specialities like khasta kachori, singara, papri chaat, chowmein and chicken stew with bread, to name a few. Read on to know the details.

New Kolkata Gets A Piece Of Old Kolkata

Tram is quintessential to the streets of ancient Kolkata. Thus, the tram restaurant in New Town brings the charm of Old Kolkata to the contemporary part of the city. This tramcar restaurant sits in front of the Mother’s Wax Museum, near Gate Number 2 of New Town’s Eco Park, which houses replicas of the 7 wonders of the world. The development of the eatery took place under the Newtown Kolkata Development Authority ( NKDA). Foodies can enjoy the city’s diverse variety of street foods and the Kolkata Chinese cuisine inside this tramcar.

The Tram Restaurant Has Elements Of Calcutta In The 1970s

The ambience, as well as the dishes at the eatery, impart a nostalgic charm to the patrons of the city. Not only does the tram hold the old-world vibe, but the pillars and surroundings are also given touches of Calcutta in the 1970s with cartoons, posters of old films, illustrations of yellow taxis, double-decker buses, rickshaws and much more.

The restaurant operates from 12 PM to 9 PM. Also, it is conveniently located near the prominent business hubs of Kolkata like the area around Narkel Bagan and Sector 5.
