The Pench Tiger Reserve has now become the fifth Dark Sky Reserve in Asia. This move is being made in order to protect the night sky from light pollution. Hanle in Ladakh is the first Dark Sky Preserve in India.

It was declared as such in October. According to an article which was recently published by livemint, natural darkness needs to be preserved. The International Union for Conservation of Nature or the IUCN also places a huge emphasis on recognising the intrinsic importance of the value of the night sky.
