Mumbaikars, CSMT’s Central Railway Will Have 24-Coach Express Trains From December!

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is an iconic landmark and one of the biggest railway stations. The trains that usually operate from this station consist of 13 or 17 coaches. However, the authorities are planning to introduce 24-coach trains for the passengers. And in order to do so, they are even extending the length of railway stations. Here are the details of this new expansion at CSMT and what it means for the passengers.

Express trains with 13 to 17 coaches are currently halted on Platforms No. 10, 11, 12, and 13 at Central Railway’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. However, work to lengthen these platforms has recently begun, and the Central Railway says it expects a 24-coach express to depart from CSMT by December 1st.

On the CSMT, there are a total of 18 platforms, of which 7 are for local trains and 11 are for long-distance trains. Platform numbers 10, 11, 12 and 13 are too short to accommodate the 24-coach express. Platforms 10 and 11 are where the 13-coach and 17-coach express trains can stop, whereas platforms 12 and 13 are where the 17-coach express can stop. As a result, the task of lengthening these four platforms has been taken on.

All of these stations will be able to accommodate 24-coach fast trains after this renovation is finished. Additionally, there will be more express coaches from the Central Railway travelling to Konkan, South, and North India. Senior Central Railway officials said that as a result, there is more room for carrying capacity.

From CSMT, 90 long-distance trains run every day. It will be beneficial to enable the movement of fast trains at another endpoint if the enlargement of four platforms is accomplished. Additionally, more express coaches would be able to travel between Mumbai and Pune on the Central Railway.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is important for local as well as inter-state and inter-city trains.

This renovation will surely help trains and stations accommodate the growing population in the city.
