Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 Receives Final Clearance After 12-Year Wait & ₹3,063 Crores

Line 1 of Navi Mumbai Metro has finally received clearance to begin commercial operations. This means that the long and expensive wait is finally over and Navi Mumbai Metro will finally be a reality. The formalities for this line of Navi Mumbai Metro began all the way back in the year 2011. Since then, owing to some issue or the other, the construction of the line and its functioning was hindered. However, now it has received the final clearance to begin commercial operations.

Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 Receives Final Clearance

Your wait for Navi Mumbai Metro is finally as Line 1 has received final clearance from authorities. This final clearance will allow Line 1 to begin commercial operations. According to an article recently published by the Hindustan Times, the work for this particular line will be completed by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation or the MMRC.

They will also be in charge of its maintenance for the next 10 years which will cost around ₹850 crores plus taxes. The first phase of Line 1 is a total of 11.1 kilometres and its car maintenance depot will be located at Taloja.

The line will connect Belapur and Pendhar and will pass through 9 stations. They are Sector 7 in Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Sector 11 in Kharghar, Sector 14 in Kharghar, Central Park, Pethapada, Sector 34 in Kharghar and Panchnand.

It Only Took 12 Years & ₹3,063 Crores

This project was first initiated in the May of 2011 and since then, multiple issues have hindered its progress. Contract cancellation as well as engineering issues also contributed heavily to the delay of the project. Now after a total of 12 long years, it has finally received clearance from authorities to begin commercial operations.

The contract for its construction was initially given to San Jose Constructora–Mahavir Roads–Supreme Infra JV. However, this contract had to be cancelled owing to issues related to delays in construction. The contract was then given to the MMRC
