With Shark Tank India taking over social media, with its viral memes and bustling startup culture, an entrepreneurship wave have swept over India. Interestingly, Bengaluru hailed for its popular startup culture is no longer India’s startup capital. Delhi has taken over India’s Silicon Valley as the country’s startup capital for 2022. The national capital now holds the coveted title. Moreover, the Economic Survey conducted reveals that Maharashtra has the highest number of recognised startups in the country. Read on to know more.

Delhi Replaces Bengaluru As India’s Startup Capital For 2022

According to the annual Economic Survey 2022, Delhi has replaced Bengaluru as India’s startup capital. From April 2019 to December 2021, Delhi witnessed the emergence of 5000 recognised startups while Bengaluru clocked the number at 4514. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has a total of 11,308 recognised startups, which is the highest in India. The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal trade (DPIIT) has recognised over 61,400 startups in India right now.

555 Districts In India Witnessed Atleast One New Startup In 2021

India has witnessed a steep rise in entrepreneurship, where the number of startups rose from 733 in 2016-17 to a whopping 14,000 in 2021-22. The Economic Survey also stated that around 555 districts in our country had one new startup last year. The document also revealed that India has the third biggest startup ecosystem in the world after the USA and China. With 83 unicorns, called over $1 billion, last year, it’s truly a time for a prosperous and innovative future.
