Odisha Plans New Expressway To Connect Bhubaneswar With Puri; Will Shorten Distance By 9 Km

A new expressway is in the pipeline and will soon connect Bhubaneswar and Puri in Odisha. The Odisha government will soon develop a new expressway connecting Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar with the proposed airport in Puri. This new expressway is all set to shorten the distance between the two cities by 9 kilometres.

Odisha To Soon Have A New Expressway

A new six-lane expressway will soon connect the two important cities of Bhubaneswar and Puri in Odisha. This new carriageway will not lessen travel distance by 9 kilometres, which is currently 66 km but also reduce travel time by 30 minutes.

While the current Bhubaneswar-Puri NH 316 experiences heavy traffic during rush hour, a number of the junctions that link the internal roads with the highway have been the scene of numerous accidents.

The new expressway is being designed for a speed of 120 kmph and will have no internal roads. A senior officer also informed me that the primary survey for this expressway has been completed and it will be an access controlled greenfield expressway. The estimated investment for this project is ₹3,600 crore.

Better Connectivity For Everyone

According to the preliminary estimation, approximately 1,300 acres of land would be purchased for the project in Odisha at an expected cost of ₹1,010 crore.

A consultant has already been chosen by the Works Department to complete a thorough survey, design the motorway, and plan the bridges and flyovers that will be built to bypass the internal roads that link it.

By providing better connectivity and reducing travel time, the new road network will act as an extra route and improve connectivity for air travelers, tourists, and pilgrims. It is anticipated to have a major impact on both cities’ real estate markets in addition to increasing the surrounding areas’ appeal for investment and development.
