Pet parents, you’d know the absolutely heartbreaking situation when you’d have to leave your pets behind to travel. But you’d also know that where there’s a will, there’s a way. Travelling with your pets, especially on trains is not just a possibility but also super convenient. And in 2022, over 1500 pets travelled with their families on long-distance train journeys. Pawwwww!
50 Per cent Rise In Pet Bookings On Train Journeys In India
According to The Economic Times report, the Central Railways (CR) witnessed a whopping 50 per cent rise in pet bookings on train journeys in 2022-2023 as compared to the financial year, 2021-2022. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people resorted to adopting pets to drive away loneliness and spread love.
Post the COVID-19 pandemic, Central Railways revealed that 1,586 pets travelled on train journeys in 2022. Whereas, last year, 1068 pets were booked for long-distance train travel. The CR recorded a whopping 48 per cent spike in travel bookings for pets via trains. It’s also observed that passengers prefer to travel with their pets on trains instead of flights. This is because some airlines don’t accept pet bookings. And others have a lengthy, expensive and cumbersome process to ferry pets.
Indian Railways Is Pet-Friendly
Earlier Southern Railways announced that people could book first-class tickets to travel with their pets. The pets must be brought in a dog box. Moreover, the guidelines reveal that vaccination certificates and fitness certificates signed by the veterinarian must be submitted beforehand.
