People Travelling From India To Singapore Must Take Pre Departure COVID Tests

In an effort to bring down the number of imported cases in the country, Singapore has mandated COVID-19 tests for all incoming travellers from India who are not Singaporeans and permanent residents. The travellers need to take the tests within 72 hours before their departure. The move will come into effect on September 17, 2020. The Health Ministry has stated that people travelling from India need to produce a valid COVID-19 negative test report taken before their flight to Singapore. In a survey taken a few days ago, Singapore had topped the destination list for Asian tourists planning post-pandemic travel.

Singapore Has Seen A Surge In Cases From India

Singapore has recently witnessed a spike in imported cases from India. A one-year-old baby who had arrived to the country from India on August 24 tested positive for the virus. On September 7, the nation received three imported cases. Two of them were from India.

As per reports, the Health Ministry said, “We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in India. There have been reports of a resurgence of infections in India. Singapore has also observed a significant number of imported cases with recent travel history to India.” Meanwhile, robot dogs are assisting people to follow social distancing guidelines in Singapore’s parks and gardens.

14-Day Quarantine Mandatory For Incoming Travellers In Singapore

The tests will be an add-on to the mandatory 14-day quarantine requirement on arrival. Before the end of the quarantine period, visitors need to present another COVID-negative report to the authorities. The ministry has added that travellers should be ready to be subjected to the precautionary measures upon entry, which includes payment for the stay-home-notice (SHN) facilities and tests. Meanwhile, some workers in the dormitories of Singapore have tested positive, detected through active surveillance testing methods like rostered routine testing (RRT).
