The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced on Tuesday that private sector workers would enjoy a holiday on Saturday, October 8. The holiday has been set up to honour the birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH). People celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal. The holiday is called Eid Al Mawlid Al Nabawi in Arabic.

How Is Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday Celebrated?

On Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, Muslims spend the day spiritually connecting with God by fasting and reading the Quran.

In the year 570 of the Gregorian calendar, Prophet Mohammed was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. However, it’s not clear what the exact Gregorian date of his birth was. Muslims celebrate Muhammed’s birthday on the 12th day of Rabi Al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic year.
