Puducherry Student Travels To 23 States Across 35000 Km In Public Transport; Creates Guinness Travel Record

Budget travelling has always been in trend. But have you ever thought of travelling the entire country via public transport? Two men from Pondicherry have already done it. They have also created Guinness travel record under the category, ‘Journey by the longest scheduled public transport in a single country.’ One of them is research scholar from from the Department of Tourism Studies, Pondicherry University, G.V. Dheelepan (29) and the other one is alumni of Pondicherry University, J. Adamsonraj ( 26). In a span of five months, the two travelled around 35,583 kilometres, covering 23 states and 4 Union Territories. Read on to know their travel story.

They Changed 43 Trains, 34 Buses And 8 Flights

According to The Hindu report, Dheelepan and Adamsonraj had commenced their journey from Puducherry on February 7, 2021. They covered India via public transport, changing 43 trains, 34 buses and 8 flights. They embarked on this adventurous journey with an objective to revive the travel and tourism sector which is adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. By taking up this journey, they wanted to create confidence among people so that they can travel amid the pandemic by adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures.

By Covering 35,583 Km, They Surpassed The Record Of Jyotsna Mishra and Durga Charan Mishra

By travelling to so many places, they explored diverse cultures, traditional cuisines and more. As per the Hindu report, Agartala was the most memorable part of their trip and they loved its traditional food too. By covering 35,583 kilometres, Dheelepan and Adamsonraj surpassed the record of Jyotsna Mishra and Durga Charan Mishra from Odisha who had covered 29,119 kilometres in 2018 via scheduled public transport.
