For some sunlit experiences and cultural immersion, Europe has been the go-to summer destination among travel lovers. And it has once again emerged as the most preferred destination for Indians during the summer travel season. The temperatures range from 20-30°C across most Schengen countries during this period, allowing travellers to enjoy long daylight hours and outdoor activities.

Atlys has noted a considerable 29% increase in Schengen visa applications from India, as compared to last year. Highlighting the region’s sustained popularity, Gen Z and Millennial travellers in particular have driven much of this growth. Atlys observed a 23.5% rise in visa requests since last year from younger travellers.

Another interesting trend was Europe’s widening appeal beyond India’s metropolitan hubs. While metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru are significant sources of visa applications, there has been a meaningful shift towards tier-two cities this year. Cities like Pune, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh saw a visa application surge of 17.8%, as compared to the past year.

Atlys’ data showed that Portugal, Greece, Spain, and Italy were some of the most popular entry points into the Schengen region for Indian travellers. With their vibrant local cultures, strong tourism infrastructure, and welcoming vibe, these countries have been a crowd-favourite.

Travellers wishing for an opulent experience are opting for destinations like France, Italy, and Switzerland. The serenity of Tuscany vineyards, the glamour of French Riviera, and of course the tranquility of Swiss lakes and resorts add to the indulgent experience at these destinations. Thrill-seekers and adventure enthusiasts are showing interest in Austria, Slovenia, and parts of northern Spain. These regions offer alpine sports, hiking trails, and offbeat nature escapes for an adrenaline-filled European escape.

Talking about this trend, Mohak Nahta, Founder and CEO of Atlys, said, “We’re witnessing a new wave of Indian travellers who are exploring the world with greater intention and curiosity. Travel today isn’t just about visiting landmarks, it’s about experiencing cultures, connecting with people, and creating lasting memories.”
