Folks in Kochi! We have some fantastic news for you. On Tuesday, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) launched free Wi-Fi service for travellers, using metro trains. The managing director of KMRL Loknath Behera inaugurated the service. Commuters can also download data at 5 to 10 Mbps speed through this service.
Kochi Metro To Offer 5G Network In Future
On Tuesday, Loknath Behera, managing director of KMRL, told the media that commuters could use their travel time for online work or entertainment. And, according to reports, currently, the metros have 4G network. After offering free Wi-Fi, Kochi Metro plans to introduce 5G network.
KMRL Took this Initiative To Promote Digital India Campaign
KMRL carried out this project to promote the Digital India campaign. This is in collaboration with a Thiruvananthapuram company, registered with the Ministry of Telecommunications.

The proposal to introduce Wi-Fi dates back to 2017 when the 12km Aluva-Palarivattom corridor of the metro was put into use. It aims to attract young and savvy commuters into the rapid transit system. Also if reports are to be believed soon, the free Wi-Fi facility will be followed by a token payment.

Kochi Commuters: Here’s How You Can Access Free Wi-Fi In Metro Trains
All trains have displayed information on how to get access to the free Wi-Fi. Commuters can enable Wi-Fi on their mobile phones. Next, select “Free KMRL Wi-Fi” from available networks. They can sign up using OTP to get free Wi-Fi. The system comes with all the security features and has no content restrictions.
Mindful of the privacy of user data, KMRL takes special care not to share user credentials with any external agencies in accordance with legal guidelines.
