Sachin Tendulkar keeps winning hearts and filming this special 100th Sunday Brunch episode with him, made it all the more special! What made it more special was that we also celebrated his birthday with his favourite street food in Mumbai. Any guesses for that? While on the topic of food, he shared an interesting story about how the British changed the name of Bombil to Bombay Duck.

Sachin Tendulkar Educated Us About The Story Behind Bombil

If you are not aware then Bombil is a fish which is also known as Bombay Duck. Known for its smell, it makes for a deliciously crispy fish fry. We started the food section of Sunday Brunch at Fresh Catch By Francis at Bandra West, Mumbai. It is one of Sachin Tendulkar’s favourite spots in the city.

The grand feast of seafood included incredible Crispy Bombil Tawa Fry, Surmayi Masala Fry, Crab Meat Butter Garlic, and many more yummy dishes. Kamiya asked him which dish they should start from and he replied, “Bombay Duck.” Then he quickly asked if she knew the story behind Bombil. Kamiya didn’t and he enlightened us with it.

Sachin Tendulkar explained that Mumbaikars used to call this fish Bombil and it was found near the docks in Mumbai. It was the Dockyard. It is said to be restricted to this region only during the reign of the British in India. The British started calling Bombil Bombay Daak. Daak here referred to a dock. Hence, people started calling Bombil Bombay Daak which over time got misconceived as Bombay Duck. Were you aware of this interesting story behind this fish?

Sachin Tendulkar shared that he loves to cook, especially seafood. Raise your hand if you enjoy cooking seafood as much as you like to indulge in it. We also got to know that he is a man of many talents, from hitting sixes on the cricket ground to making yummy fish curry he has got it all.

He revealed that shortly after getting married, he made fish curry and rice for his wife, Anjali Tendulkar. He wanted to impress her! We mean he had already done that but wanted to sprinkle a little more love towards her. He contacted his mother right away and followed all the instructions given to cook fish curry and rice.
