However, it’s important to note that adding salt to coffee is not for everyone. Some people find that it can make the coffee taste too salty or overpowering.

Salting coffee is a tradition that goes back hundreds of years in countries like Turkey, Hungary, and Siberia, and more recently, it has become popular in Vietnam, where coffee is combined with whipped salted cream or milk.

How Much Salt Should You Add?

If you’re curious about adding salt to your coffee, start with a small pinch and gradually increase the amount until you find the right balance for your taste preferences. It’s also important to use high-quality coffee beans and to brew your coffee properly, as adding salt will not be able to compensate for poor quality or incorrect brewing techniques.

Adding ¼ tsp of salt to 12 tbsp of freshly ground coffee should be enough. Adding a tiny pinch to an already brewed cup of coffee can work just as well. The flavour should become noticeably less bitter and acrid, and any bright fruity notes should be more pronounced. You’re free to adjust your ratio—as long as your coffee doesn’t begin to become briny.

Some people swear by it, while others prefer their coffee without any added seasoning. Regardless of how you choose to enjoy your coffee, the most important thing is to savour each sip and appreciate the unique flavours and aromas that this beloved beverage has to offer.
