This village in Nihal Singh Wala subdivision has built a welfare model for its citizens that includes providing health insurance to the needy and pension to elderly, widows and disabled people. The village has awards from the government for its various initiatives including the fight against plastic pollution and developing a sewage treatment plan from scratch. Ransih Kalan Village In Moga Provides Health Insurance & Pension To Its Citizens

The panchayat of Ransih Kalan village in Moga, pools part of the income of residents through a dawasandh system. This includes giving 1/10th of the earnings. Through this system, Ransih Kalan village started a helpful pension and health insurance scheme five months ago. According to a Hindustan Times report, this village has around 70 beneficiaries. It’s offering health insurance to 25 residents. The village provides pension to widows, disabled and elderly people whose pension applications were rejected by the government despite being eligible for the same. They get 750 per month as a pension. Villagers use rainwater for irrigation and built a sewage treatment plant for themselves. Apart from this, Ransih Kalan village has arrangements to use wastewater from air conditioners and air purifiers attached in households.

This Model Village Also Combats Plastic Pollution By Recycling Plastic

When it comes to providing pension, the head of this model village, Kuldeep Kaur spoke to Hindustan Times. Kaur stated, “We found that our people were making rounds of government offices to avail the pension and were being harassed. We called a panchayat meeting and started a pension scheme on the pattern of the state government. Also, we are providing health cover up to 1 lakh per person at any hospital. Nine people have already availed the benefit.” Ransih Kalan village organises camp every two months to make the abode plastic-free. Heads of the village sell ration and other goods, in turn, they accept payment in plastic. The plastic collected, is then sent to a factory in Ludhiana for recycling.
