H.H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council, has issued Emiri Decree No. 16 of 2024. Further, he has formally declared the establishment of the Mleiha National Park in the Emirate of Sharjah, marking a significant step towards environmental conservation. This project is a critical step in protecting the area’s biodiversity and natural beauty.

According to the decree, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) will be in charge of managing and overseeing the Mleiha National Park. It will make sure that all of its operations adhere to the strictest guidelines for environmental preservation. An attached map delineates the park’s boundaries, offering a defined area for development and protection initiatives.

The decree places a heavy focus on preserving the park’s aesthetic value and ecological balance. And it imposes stringent rules against any activities that can endanger its surroundings. They forbid hunting, pollution, military drills, and any kind of industrial or construction activity carried out without the required permission. These precautions are meant to shield the park’s natural ecosystems and fauna from any unfavourable effects.

Additionally, the decree stipulates that the competent authority must approve any activities or acts in the surrounding areas that may have an impact on the park’s aesthetic value. This guarantees an all-encompassing strategy for safeguarding the environment that goes beyond the park’s physical limits. To further emphasise the dedication to preserving the park’s integrity, anybody found in breach must pay for all expenses associated with repairing any harm they may have caused.

The decree designates specific employees as judicial control officers. They will have the authority to successfully execute these rules within their purview. This is a component of a larger plan to guarantee adherence to environmental regulations and preserve Mleiha National Park.

An essential component of this endeavour is coordination amongst different governmental entities. The responsible authority has the responsibility of overseeing the park and liaising with the Sharjah Police General Command and municipal council to guarantee efficient management and implementation of legal measures against infractions within the park’s limits. This historic decision by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi establishes a standard for sustainable development methods in the area.
