The lockdown has been a very crucial time for every people in the country. For a prolonged period of about one and a half months, people were not allowed to step out of their houses and live only on the ‘essentials’. But now, various states are finally easing the lockdown restrictions, allowing shops that sell non-essential items to operate as well. Punjab government, too, has extended the business hours for the retailers of the state. Read on to know the details.
Shops in Punjab, except those in the containment zones, can now remain open from 7 AM to 6 PM, as per the new government rules. Various shops have already opened up in Amritsar, and the shopkeepers are taking measures to sanitise every customer. Earlier, the government had allowed the opening of these shops from 7 AM to 3 PM. The shopkeepers have drawn circles outside their stores with chalks to ensure that the buyers maintain safe distances from each other. Also, it is mandatory for all the customers and sellers to wear face masks.
Both the shopkeepers and the buyers of the state are happy with this new decision of the government. The new timings will be beneficial, especially for the shopkeepers selling non-essential items, who were facing huge losses amid the countrywide lockdown. Some other states are also providing relaxations regarding shop openings. For example, Delhi has urged the Centre to allow the opening of markets and malls on an odd-even basis.
