Karnataka Tourism, with its telos “One State, Many Worlds,” boasts monuments, heritage, nature, wildlife, adventure, and sacred tourist places, making it a unique and captivating destination. In their latest move for tourism, the Karnataka government intends to implement the ‘Karnataka Tourism Ropeways Bill, 2024’ in order to promote the construction of cable cars and ropeways in popular tourist locations.
What Is The Karnataka Tourism Ropeways Bill For Cable Cars About?
Karnataka is the first state in South India to propose the Ropeways Bill. The Karnataka government is dedicated to building ropeways and cable cars at significant heli-tourist destinations, covering installation, operation, and maintenance around the state to boost tourism, according to state tourism secretary Salma K. Fahim, as reported by Moneycontrol.
Nandi Hills near Bengaluru, Anjanadri Hills in Koppal, Madhugiri Fort in Tumakuru, Mallalli Falls in Kodagu, Savadatti Yallammana Gudda in Belagavi, Ballari Fort, Yadgir Fort, and Nrupatunga Hills in Hubballi are just a few of the places where the state’s tourism department has identified possible cable car projects.
Karnataka plans to build ropeways in several places, taking advantage of its varied hilly landscapes. To entice industry stakeholders, the government has issued an expression of interest. Following technical and feasibility assessments, project locations will be finalised.
Nandi Hills: Karnataka’s First Destination For Cable Car
Nandi Hills, close to Bengaluru, will host the first ropeway project in Karnataka. In July 2024, the state submitted the Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) Amendment Bill 2024, which included two acres for the higher terminal of the ropeway. With a 30-year lease, the project is being carried out under a public-private partnership format. However, departmental land transfer problems have resulted in delays.
Ropeway projects in the state have faced obstacles, including a cable car near Jog Falls in an ecologically sensitive area and a proposed ropeway at Chamundi Hills, which has been stalled due to activist opposition.
Karnataka is a beauty in itself, and with the cable cars, tourism in Karnataka will definitely add a bit more fun.
