Housing is an important factor that determines one’s financial status and living comfort. However, finding an appropriate house that suits one’s living purposes while within the budget can sometimes be difficult. And keeping this in mind, Sultan Haitham recently announced a new project for the outskirts of Muscat city, which involves the construction of a new city.

Sultan Haitham City To Be Built For Low-Income Citizens In Oman

Yes, on Wednesday, May 31, the sultan of Oman announced the construction of a new city that would accommodate low-income citizens of the country. It is expected to be built on the outskirts of Muscat and will feature 20,000 properties. Spread across a whopping 14.8 million square meters, the city will be able to house 100,000 residents. According to the news report by the National News, it was also mentioned that this city project will include schools, places of worship, hospitals, a university, and even shopping centres. It should be mentioned that the construction is expected to begin as early as next year and may finish in three years!

The Announcement Was Made At The Al Alam Palace

There was a ceremony, held at Al Alam Palace, where the announcement was made about the vast building project near Muscat. It’s worth mentioning that priority will be given to married couples who are struggling to afford rent. So, this decision has been welcomed by citizens, as there are many who lived in cramped family accommodations. As such, the project announcement comes after recently, three sites were allocated for waterfront projects in South Batinah by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Planning. As it happens, it was recently announced that 40 new projects in development are expected to open before 2025 to attract visitors. The plan is also to create mountain trails in some prime locations and even cable cars, to attract adventure tourists.

Coming back to the new city project of Sultan Haitham City, it is expected that this will open in 2027.
