Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Red Fort And Other Monuments To Allow Free Entry From August 5-15

As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Government of India has announced that all the monuments and sites protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will allow free entry to its visitors for ten days, from August 5 to 15. This initiative has been taken to mark the 75th year of Indian Independence. During these days, tourists can skip the queues at the ticket counters of these popular tourist spots and enter the monuments directly. Other times of the year, tourists need to collect entry tickets from the ticket counters. Alternatively, they can also book the tickets online.

116 ASI Monuments Across India Are Ticketed

India has more than 3600 ASI-protected monuments. 116 of them need tickets for entry. Uttar Pradesh has 17 ticketed monuments. Maharashtra, Delhi and Karnataka have 16, 10 and 12 ticketed monuments respectively. Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have 8, 7 and 6 ticketed monuments respectively. This initiative by the government will allow free entry to popular tourist attractions across India like the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar and Ajanta Caves.

Government Issued A Notice On The Free Entries

A notice issued by the Government of India reads, “In exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 6 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959, the Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, hereby directed that no fee shall be charged at all the ticketed Centrally protected monuments/Archaeological Sites and Remains specified in the Second Schedule of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959 as well as Archaeological Site Museums from 5th August 2022 to 15th August 2022 on the occasion of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav as part of commemoration of 75th year of India’s Independence.”
