Plastic menace is real. And to combat climate change in a significant way, cloth bag vending machines will be installed to make eco-friendly bags available to the public. A prototype machine has been developed. The machine dispenses a cloth bag with the insertion of a ₹10 coin. IAS officer Supriya Sahu demonstrated procuring a bag from the machine in a video on Twitter.

Her tweet read, ‘Manjapai Vending Machine is finally here. It is a challenge to make cloth bags available in public places at an affordable cost. We are working to set up these machines at market places & bus stops etc Prototype is ready and details will come soon.’

Twitterati Came Up With More Suggestions On Supriya Sahu’s Post

A Twitter account said, “Thank you ma’am for coming up with such an innovative initiative, I think this should be installed even in Delhi NCR markets too.

Thank you Supriya ma’am

“Wonderful things can happen only by wonderful people with a beautiful souls” (sic)

Another Twitter user said, ‘Splendid. My suggestion is to make it accept electronic payments as well apart from just coins. Not everyone would be carrying coins around. The transaction cost might be there but then the machine would be more useful to everyone that way.’

Sahu’s Twitter post flooded with words of praise and how this initiative would further encourage other states to take this up. Netizens also came up with different ways to combat plastic change,
