Aquaspin, the water-based workout at Dubai Marina is the cool new exercise that will leave you sweating and gasping for breath while having loads of fun.
After Aquaspin’s soaring success in Singapore, Dubai-based fitness trainer Sian launched the concept at the Intercontinental Hotel, Dubai Marina. That’s how fitness junkies in Dubai got hooked on to this water-based exercise.
The water-based workout involves cycles, which are submerged underwater. Participants then pedal using the resistance of the water to exercise. Good enough to ditch gym, right?
How Does It Work?
Aquaspin uses stationary bicycles specially made to be submerged in water, where participants (partially submerged) can pedal using the resistance of the water to exercise. Riders can pick from three different levels of programs, depending on their stamina.
1. Aqua Endure
Aqua endure classes are built on long intervals and high tempo music. This is just perfect if you are training for a fitness milestone like a run, trek, marathon or triathlon.
2. Aqua Signature
This high-intensity interval training involves rapid cycling for a certain interval, which is followed by an active recovery period. This way, your heart rate increases faster, burning more calories. A perfect way to jump-start your day!
3. Aqua Power
This 50-minute high-intensity workout combines cardiovascular training along with strength training, creating a high-paced workout before you drip in sweat.
You don’t really have to be in your swimwear, we would recommend a comfortable pair of shorts and a t-shirt. You don’t have to carry your shoes because you’ll be inside the pool. Make sure you adjust the seat height before you get pedalling or the whole workout might turn out uncomfortable.
And lastly, expect some pain the next day- that’s a sign your workout is working!
