Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express No Longer The ‘Longest Non-Stop Train’; This Train Is

The Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express was the erstwhile longest non-stop train. However, that will soon change. According to an article recently published by Omanorama, the reason is quite interesting. Initially, the Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express which heads to the Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi, had the longest non-stop journey between Vadodara and Kota. However, that is changed as a new stop has been introduced between the two. Now, the record for the longest non-stop train will be held by another train.

The train set the record because it travelled for a whopping 528 kilometres non-stop between Vadodara in Gujarat and Kota in Rajasthan. The journey went on for 6 hours and 45 minutes without a halt. However, now, the Railways have decided to allot a stop at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh.

This reduces the non-stop journey between Vadodara and Ratlam to only 258 kilometres. Hence, the Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express that commenced its journey yesterday, will arrive at Ratlam having lost its title. The train operates three times a week and the additional station in Ratlam was appointed on an experimental basis.

An official is cited in the article saying that the decision was made after taking into consideration factors like peak hours, rush, and the revenue generated from each station.

With its non-stop journey cut short, the longest non-stop train will not be the Mumbai-New Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express. The train covers 465 kilometres non-stop between New Delhi and Kota. The distance covered over a period of 5 hours and 10 minutes.

According to the article, the Ratlam Junction, for now, is merely experimental. However, if people start using the service in large enough numbers, the junction will be turned into a permanent stop.

Thiruvananthapuram Rajdhani Express, which is numbered 12431/12432, might then lose its title for good if this happens. There is also a Vande Bharat Train between Trivandrum and Kasargod which stops at seven stations and covers the distance in 7 hours and 12 minutes.
