They have a very strong belief in one of their oral histories regarding Mount Bromo and Ganesha. It is regarded as a very sacred mountain because Bromo means Lord Brahma and it was named after him. Indonesia houses a huge population of the Hindu community. The whole country has multiple temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha and the citizens very dedicatedly worship Lord Ganesha. Out of those, there is one idol of Lord Ganesha that is considered to have mega powers.

This 700-year-old Ganesha idol sits at the mouth of an active volcano, that is, Mount Bromo in Indonesia. It is perched right at the edge of the volcano and you can even see some fumes coming off from behind it. The people living near this volcanic mountain believe that Ganesha protects them from the deadly volcanic eruptions of Mount Bromo.

When a volcanic eruption occurs, the magma comes out as lava and it is extremely hot. This goes on to disrupt civilisations and livelihoods nearby. Even the fumes coming off an active volcano are poisonous when inhaled for a longer amount of time. This Ganesha protects the people of Mount Bromo from all these mishaps and is a saviour for them.

It is believed that the idol was installed by the ancestors of the Tengger massif tribe around 700 years ago. To this day, people make offerings to Ganesha, in order to keep protecting them from eruptions. Now, this has become a strict tradition here.

Even if there is an eruption, people still worship the idol. Based on traditions, it is also said that if flowers and fruits are not offered to Ganesha, the active volcano will erupt and make the land barren.
