This 80-Year-Old Man Cycled 4500 Km From Kerala To Ladakh & Celebrated His Birthday In Khardung La

Jose MP, lovingly called Josettan, cycled 4500 km from Thrissur in Kerala to Ladakh. He celebrated his 80th birthday at India’s highest motorable road for civilians, Khardung La. The retired plumber from the Government Medical College in Thrissur cycled all the way from the south to the north of India to create awareness on a cause that’s very close to his heart. Jose MP Cycles To Create Awareness On Harmful Effects Of Smoking

The triathlete wasn’t always a healthy, disciplined person. In fact, to reach his destination of fitness was a chain smoker till his early 40s. On realising the ill effects of smoking on his health and the way passive smoking affected his family, he decided to not just quit, but create awareness among the youth of India. Since then, Jose MP has been cycling across India to inspire youngsters to give up the consumption of cigarettes and drugs.

Celebrated His 80th Birthday At India’s Highest Motorable Road

He embarked on a mission called “Wheels of Life”, a battle against smoking and drugs. With a sole objective to raise awareness, the octogenarian cycles along rugged pathways, hilly roads and coastline across our country. Bearing ill weather, old age and tiredness, he single-mindedly focuses on imagining a strong India, where vices like cigarettes have no welcome. He cycled 4500 km to Ladakh to celebrate his 80th birthday at Khardung La.

He Dreams To See A Strong India Away From These Vices

Spreading a strong message on a healthy living, disciplined lifestyle, his journey is an inspiration. It’s even more inspiring to know that at the age of 40 he opted for a lifestyle change. Changing his life by 360 degrees, the former chain smoker, today inspired the youth across the country to opt for a fresh start, away from the chains of drugs and cigarettes. Josettan revealed to The Better India, that he dreams to witness the young generation of India, away from these vices. He dreams to see a strong India.

On September 11, he celebrated a personal milestone of cycling 4500 km at the age of 79. While his birthday was part of the plan, his mission always stands first.
