Delhi experienced bad weather this Thursday evening and this led to some changes for the flights that were scheduled to land at the Delhi airport. According to a report by The Times Of India, over 22 flights had to divert their routes to different parts of India to avoid landing at Delhi airport because of rainfall and thunderstorms. Here’s all you need to know about the change in air routes of these flights of airlines such as Air India and more.

The Extreme Weather Conditions Was Quite Unexpected

Delhi was hit by a downpour and thunderstorms all of a sudden. And the sudden change in weather turned out to be a major problem for the airlines and their flights carrying passengers to their destinations. The weather in the national capital turned out to be such an issue that there was simply no alternative to diverting the route completely. According to a TOI report, many flights landed in different airports such as Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Lucknow.

Among some Air India flights that were scheduled to land in Delhi, one flight was diverted to Lucknow. A passenger on this Air India flight from Kolkata shared with Telegraph- My Kolkata that this flight departed from Kolkata airport at 3:25 PM. The plane flew near the Delhi airport for a short period before diverting its route to Lucknow. The passenger shared how there was less fuel on the flight and hence the airport diverted it to Lucknow. After reaching the Lucknow airport at 6:45 PM, the aircraft took off from there at 9:45 PM.

Many Air India Flights Chose Different Airports In India For Landing For A Few Hours

A total of 9 flights of Air India airline from different airports had to change their routes. These flights were diverted to Jaipur and Lucknow, as an Air India spokesperson shared with Telegraph- My Kolkata.

It took some time for the weather to get better and appropriate for the flights to reach there. The diverted flights took off from different Indian airports to reach Delhi in the evening.

The situation was a huge trouble for many people as the change in routes was so sudden.
