Even though the name is self-explanatory, what precisely is the Jadisil Fish Sanctuary and why has it recently become so well-known? In case you were wondering, people come here from all over the world just to have this one-of-a-kind experience.

The Meghalaya state government’s efforts to repopulate the native fish species’ dwindling population led to the creation of the Jadisil Fish Sanctuary. Due to the careless use of rivers and their resources, the natural river systems were gradually running out of fish.

The Department of Fisheries of the state government developed a number of strategies to manage this issue. Among those initiatives is a fish sanctuary. In this case, ecotourism was used. Of course, there are many more fish sanctuaries in the state besides Jadisil.
