This Place In Delhi Pays A Tribute To The Martyred Soldiers Of India

The National War Memorial nestled near India Gate, Delhi pays tribute to those who can never be forgotten. Since Independence, over 26,000 soldiers of the Indian Armed Force sacrificed their lives to protect the nation. The Memorial is a place that thanks them for their supreme sacrifice amid various conflicts since Independence. The National Memorial further strengthens the sense of high moral values, sacrifices and national pride in Indians.

Amar Jawan Jyoti At National War Memorial In Delhi Instills Pride

When you walk into the National War Memorial, you’d instantly be captivated by the Amar Jawan Jyoti, nestled at the heart of the memorial. Amar Jawan Jyoti was installed under the Arch of India Gate in January 1972 to mark India’s victory in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Wreaths have been placed at Amar Jawan Jyoti by dignitaries on several occasions to pay tribute to the armed forces. The Monument has been dedicated to the Armed Forced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Memorial Has Distinct Scheme Of Concentric Circles

The National War Memorial has a distinct scheme of concentric circles. The Amar Chakra is the Circle of Immortality.  An Obelisk with Eternal Flame symbolises the immortal spirit of the fallen soldiers with the assurance that the nation shall always recognise their sacrifices. The Veerta Chakra is the Circle of Bravery. With a covered gallery exhibiting six murals crafted in bronze, it depicts the battle actions of the Indian Armed Forces.  The Tyag Chakra is the Circle of Sacrifice. It’s depicted with circular concentric walls of honour that symbolise the ancient Mahabharata war formation, Chakravyuh. The Rakshak Chakra is the Circle of Protection that reassures the citizens of India that the country is in the safe hands of soldiers who work round the clock selflessly.

Param Yodha Sthal: Garden With Statues Of  Param Vir Chakra Soldiers

At the National War Memorial, you’ll also come across Param Yodha Sthal, a garden with statues of 21 soldiers who were awarded the “Param Vir Chakra”, the Nation’s Highest Gallantry Award. A statue of Captain Vikram Batra, stands tall, recognising his supreme sacrifice in the capture of Point 4875, the mountain named Batra Top, during the Kargil War in 1999.
