This tree is the General Sherman and is a giant sequoia tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County of California. The General Sherman tree has a trunk diameter of 25-feet with an estimated volume of 1487 meters square. While there are other trees in the world with greater circumference or length, but the General Sherman Tree wins by the sheer size of wood, i.e. 52,500 cubic feet.

This tree stands at 275 feet from the ground and is the world’s largest living single-stem tree by volume. This tree has been named after the American Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman in the year 1879. Seven years later, this area came under the control of the Kaweah Colony who renamed this tree in honour of Karl Marx. However, the community was disbanded in 1892 and as a result, the tree reverted to its previous name.
