Kerala’s Mango Village Kannapuram Grows 102 Varieties Of Mangoes

According to a report by Atlas Obscura, Kuruvakkavu in Kannapuram boasts 102 varieties of mangoes grown on 382 trees in a plot of a mere 300 square metres. In fact on World Mango Day, July 22, 2020, Kerala State Biodiversity Board declared Kuruvakkavu an Indigenous Mango Heritage Area. Catering to all kinds of mango lovers, the tiny village has an array of mangoes that differs in colour, taste, fibre content and more.

Kannapuram To Host Mango-Themed Heritage Walks

Kuruvakkavu in Kannapuram has been put on the national mango map. To create more awareness about their mangoes the village hosts a special mango fest every year on the first Sunday of May. The mango festival celebrates the rich varieties of mangoes and delicious dishes prepared from it. Dignitaries are invited and discussions are held on the produce. The mango village also has plans to arrange mango-themed heritage walks for mango lovers. And we can’t wait for this!
