In order to control the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus (COVID -19) in India, the Indian Railways  is now discouraging people to use the transport service. One of the steps that they have taken is to suspend all concessions, but four, that the railways offers its passengers.

Recently, the railways announced that in order to discourage senior citizens from traveling, they will be suspending the concession that is offered to them. Along with that, all other concessions have also been suspended, except for the ones for students, patients and the specially-abled. Through this step, they are trying to ensure that people refrain from all kinds of non-essential travel.

The cost of platform tickets has also been increased in order to avoid more and more people from crowding at the platform, unnecessarily.

How Has The Coronavirus Outbreak Affected Railways

According to news reports, the Indian Railways reported a loss of ₹454cr last week. The trains have been having extremely low number of bookings lately, because of which almost 184 trains have been cancelled.

The decline in number of passengers was down by 45% as people were canceling their tickets last minute in order to avoid travel.
