Travelling Amid Heatwave? Keep These Tips In Mind

India is experiencing one of the hottest summers this year with temperatures soaring up to around 49°C in certain places. At a time when stepping out in the scorching heat feels like a nightmare, travelling long distances might seem like a challenging task. But worry not. We are listing down some tips and tricks that will make your travel amid the heatwave comfortable and easier. So, what are the things to keep in mind for travelling amid a heatwave? Here is a list of 8 things:

1. Drink Lots And Lots Of Water

The first and foremost thing to deal with the heatwave is to drink lots of water. Ensure that you carry your water bottle while travelling. Also, try to opt for insulated bottles that help to keep the water cold.

2. Wear Sunscreen

You do not want to get your skin burned while travelling so make it a point to apply sunscreen and carry it along too. Avoid heavy makeup that causes irritation and sweat.

3. Opt For Air-Conditioned Travel Options

Opt for air-conditioned cars, buses and trains for travelling. If there is a flight on the route, it is best to opt for it in case it comes within budget.

4. Wear Lightweight Clothes

Wear lightweight fabrics like cotton, sheer or linen and avoid the ones that stick to the skin. Keep your heavy silk and synthetic clothes aside for the cooler months.

5. Carry Umbrella, Sunglass, Scarf And Cap

Even if you’re walking under the sun for five minutes, do not forget to carry your umbrella. Cover your face and head with a scarf and wear a pair of sunglasses. If you’re not comfortable wearing a scarf, wear a cap at least. Try your best not to expose your skin directly to the sun.

6. Carry Fresh Fruits

Fruits help in keeping our bodies hydrated. So, try to carry fresh fruits like watermelon, musk melon and more to satiate your hunger pangs on the way.

7. Grab A Lassi

Curd is known to reduce our body heat and also fight bacteria in the stomach. So, when you’re travelling, try to grab a glass of lassi from any roadside shop for your dose of rejuvenation.

8. Avoid Foods And Beverages That Increase Body Temperature

Avoid consuming foods that tend to increase the body temperatures, like meat, egg and fish. Also, curtail your tea and coffee intake. Say a big no to alcohol while you’re on your travels.

9. Travel To Colder Places

If you’re making a travel plan, pick up a destination where temperatures are comparatively lower. You can choose mountain destinations like Himachal, Sikkim and Meghalaya.
