A New Jersey man travelling on a Seattle-Dallas American Airlines flight was arrested for his alleged disruptive behaviour mid-air. The man tried to open the aeroplane’s door mid-air and even asked a flight attendant for sex which led to an emergency landing of the flight in Utah. He was arrested by the police there and was booked under several charges.
US Man Arrested For Trying To Open American Airlines’ Plane Door Mid-Air
A New Jersey man was arrested in Utah after he caused an emergency landing of an American Airlines flight due to his unruly behaviour. Twenty-six-year-old Eric Nicholas Gapco was travelling from Seattle to Dallas on July 18 with American Airlines. During the flight, he attempted to open the aeroplane’s door mid-air multiple times and even propositioned a flight attendant for sex. His behaviour forced the flight to make an emergency landing in Utah, where he was arrested by the police.
According to an NDTV report, the US man ate too many marijuana edibles before entering the American Airlines flight. This, reportedly, led to his obnoxious and unruly behaviour on the plane. As per the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, Eric also removed his shirt mid-flight and began inhaling on a vape pen. He then started cursing and hitting on a crew member and even proposed sex to her. Furthermore, he also, allegedly, assaulted a flight attendant.
Disruptive Behaviour Causes Emergency Landing In Utah
As per the eyewitnesses, Eric was shouting, “I am sane!” at the American Airlines’ crew members while they were trying to calm him down near the plane’s lavatory. In fact, the passengers and the flight crew were forced to restrain his hands and feet to get him to sit in the rear seat while the plane diverted to Utah’s Salt Lake City airport for an emergency landing.
He was arrested by the local police there and now faces multiple federal charges. The federal grand jury has booked Eric on counts of interfering with the American Airlines’ flight crew and attempting to harm an aircraft under the United States’ special aircraft jurisdiction, NDTV reported. His initial court appearance is scheduled soon.
