If you are planning to pursue your higher education in the United States, you certainly know that studying there is an expensive deal! Well, it is now costlier than what you have heard of before. The US State Department announced some changes recently where the fee for application has been increased. The fee just got hiked for some non-immigrant visas and the US student visa also falls under this new set of changes. Read on to know about the raise in application fees.

Indian Students Will Now Need To Pay This Amount For The US Visa Application Fee

The US State Department recently stated in an official statement about the change in the application fee for non-immigrant visas. This new change is going to come into action on 30 May 2023. The new introduction by the US State Department is changing the application fee for business visas, tourism visas, and other non-petition-based NIVs like international student and exchange visitor visas.

The fee has been increased to $185 from $160. Indian students will now need to pay ₹15,140 (₹15,140.49) for the application. The US State Department made a hike of $25 for all application fees for all the above-mentioned categories.

The US State Department Made Some Other Changes As Well

The increase in the fee for the application is not the only change made by the US State Department. They also stated the change in the fee for some petition-based nonimmigrant visas. This change is only for the temporary workers (H, L, O, P, Q, and R categories). The fee increased from $190 to $205.

The Department also shared that the visa fee for treaty traders, treaty investors, and treaty applicants in a specialty occupation (E category) is also seeing a hike. It is increasing to $315 from $205.

More and more Indian students are flying to the United States to pursue their higher education. The numbers are increasing every year. Interestingly, a record number of Indian students flew to the US for studies in 2022.
