Pasighat Sits At The Foothills Of The Himalayas

While talking about walking in the clouds, let’s brush up on your history too! Pasighat is one of the oldest towns in Arunachal Pradesh. Isn’t it amazing to be able to visit places so rustic and so old? The cozy town sits in the eastern Siang district bordering Assam in Northeast India. The foundation of the town dates back to 1911 and is now known as the “Gateway of Arunachal.” It is at an average elevation of about 156 meters above sea level. And people often believe that Pasighat sits above the clouds. And we say it’s true. The place is famous for its spellbinding view of cloud-covered valleys and hanging bridges.

How To Reach Pasighat?

Reaching Pasighat is quite easy ever since the opening of the Bogibeel bridge near Dibrugarh in and the Bhupen Hazarika Setu at Sadia. Both of these, along with the regional Airport, make Pasighat easily accessible to the rest of India.
After the regional airport in 2018, ATR flights are able to connect Pasighat to the rest of the world through Guwahati. And if you are looking for a luxurious mode of transport, there are helicopter services available from Pasighat. And if you are one of those who crave a beautiful train journey, the Murkongselek railway station in Assam is just 37 km away.

This is your ideal hiking destination to satisfy the adventurer in you. This mountain cliff in East Siang also holds some historical significance. You will be able to see the black stone memorial of Mr. Noel Williamson on the cliff. He was a political officer of the British and was killed by a native of Yagrung Village in Pasighat. Other sights of interest include Pangin, Komsing Village, Bodak view Point, and others. And if you are visiting Pasighat only for the clouds, do not skip Bodak point!
