Water, Earth & Fire: NASA Scientists Conduct Mesmerising Space Experiments On Earth’s Elements

Water, earth and fire are three of the four elements of our planet. These elements have been studied ever since humans first discovered them. Since, then, we’ve managed to garner significant insight about their nature and how they behave. However, this insight is limited to the planet. We only know about how these elements act on Earth, in the presence of gravity and other atmospheric conditions. Not much is known, however, about how they would behave in the absence of said conditions. NASA scientists therefore conducted a series of space experiments!

NASA Scientists Conduct Space Experiments On Earthly Elements

Every so often, we’re hit with the realisation that for all the progress and knowledge we have accrued over the course of human history, what we know is but a drop compared to the vast ocean of things we don’t know yet. Recently, scientists from NASA shared a stunning and awe-inspiring video of experiments they conduct in Space.

Carried out on the International Space Station, these experiments cover three of the four elements of our planet. These are earth, water and fire. The earth part of the experiment consists of them (successfully) attempting to grow a garden in space. While some of us struggle to keep our plants at home alive, NASA scientists have managed to create an entire garden in space!

Their green thumbs must be astronomical, literally! They study how the plants grow, how one would go about watering the plants in a zero-gravity environment and other such interesting and complicated questions. They successfully managed to harvest chilli peppers and the video showed them relishing their fruits of labour with chow!

A Series Of Stunning Visuals And Aw-Inspiring Moments

They also showed stunning visuals of how fire and water behave in space. Watching water globules float around like bubbles in space has to be one of the most mesmerising sights you could ever have the privilege of witnessing! The experiments done with fire were for the sake of Combustion science, which is the branch that studies fire, its properties and its behaviour.

All of these stunning visuals while classical music played in the background. Forget ASMR, this is what you need after a long hard day of work! Astronauts Woody Hoburg, Christina Koch, Mark Vande Hei, and many other scientists are seen floating around in space not just doing serious research, but also having fun. It is a reminder of why doing science is important and how far humans have yet to travel in terms of knowledge.
