Summer season is getting terribly intolerable with every passing day this year. The temperature has been surging continuously for the past few weeks along with unbearable heatwaves affecting different parts of India and abroad. Shockingly, the month of April 2024 is now considered the warmest ever since 1940. The temperature has jumped higher to a massive extent in different places all around the world.
April 2024 Was The Hottest Month Globally Since 1940
The Copernicus Climate Change Service C3S’ data revealed that April 2024 was not only warmer than other April months since 1940 but it also marked the 11th month of a streak of the highest temperatures globally. Scientists revealed how it became the continuous 11th month at a stretch to record the temperatures being the warmest all around the world.
April reported the temperature to get warmer by 1.58°C in comparison to the estimated average of the previous April months between 1850 and 1900, according to a report by Hindustan Times. In addition to this, the average temperature globally between May 2023 and April 2024 has been recorded as being the highest. It resulted in 0.73°C higher than the average between 1991 and 2020 and 1.61°C more than the time period between 1850 and 1900 average. These 5 decades were the years of pre-industrialisation.
Data shared by ERA5 stated how April 2024 became the hottest 11th month. It was back during 2025-16 when such a strange continuity of the global temperatures rising was reported. The weather has worsened everywhere, be it Asia, Africa, or Europe.
In April, Europe reported the average temperature to remain 1.49°C higher than this month’s 1991-2020 average. The mercury was again more than average in many places in Africa, South America, Greenland, Northwest Middle East, eastern Asia, and Northeastern North America.
