SpiceJet Passengers Suffer For An Hour On Darbhanga-Bound Flight Due To AC Failure Amid Delhi’s Scorching Weather

Passengers on the Delhi to Darbhanga SpiceJet flight were left without air conditioning in Delhi on June 19. The ACs on the SpiceJet flight SG 486 remained non-functional for over an hour and people were left sweating and fanning themselves while they were asked to wait in the flight. Seeing Delhi’s intense heat conditions, this issue is quite concerning. It has been reported that many passengers onboard expressed discomfort and health concerns due to the prolonged exposure to high temperatures and lack of proper ventilation in the aircraft.

Passengers Left Without AC On Delhi-Darbhanga SpiceJet Flight

On June 19, a Delhi to Darbhanga SpiceJet flight left passengers sweating and fanning themselves as the aircraft’s air conditioning remained non-functional while boarding. It has been reported that the flight’s ACs were not working for over an hour and the passengers, especially the elderly and young children, expressed discomfort and health concerns due to intense heat conditions.

In a video that’s going around the Internet, the passengers on the flight can be seen checking AC vents, fanning themselves with their tickets and pamphlets, and wiping away their sweat. This is extremely concerning as Delhi has been expressing intense heat waves and temperatures as high as 45°C lately.

While talking to The Economic Times, one of the passengers on this flight recounted their terrible experience. He mentioned that after the boarding process started, SpiceJet did not switch on the air-conditioning for an hour and the inflight temperature was around 40°C. He then went on to explain that the air conditioning was only switched on when the flight finally took off.

Addressing the issue, SpiceJet issued a statement on the lack of air conditioning on the Delhi to Darbhanga flight. As per their clarification, the ACs were not switched off but rather experienced “slight inefficiency” during boarding. The airline’s spokesperson said that the flight was on time and the air conditioning was also working normally throughout the flight and the ground staff even verified that upon arrival in Darbhanga.

The airline went on to explain that during boarding in Delhi, the flight’s air conditioning initially “experienced slight inefficiency due to extreme weather conditions.” The crew opened both doors of the aircraft to ensure ventilation. Once they ensured the cooling was functionally normal, they shut the doors.

While we understand that the weather conditions in Delhi are quite extreme, it is the airline’s responsibility to make sure that no passenger suffers. Timely technical check-ups and proper maintenance can help ensure that passengers don’t end up experiencing such inconveniences in the future.
