Mumbai To Get India’s Longest Sea Ropeway; Sewri To Elephanta Caves In Flat 14 Minutes

Mumbai is all set to get India’s longest ropeway project oversea. Spanning 8 km, the ropeway starts from Sewri in Mumbai’s east coast and end at Elephanta Island in Raigad district. The tentative fare for the journey both ways is expected to be around ₹500 for Indians and ₹1000 for foreign tourists. Reportedly, this ropeway shall give a major boost to tourism. With a 14-minute ride and 30 seater cable cars, this is touted to be an ambitious project. The project also involves the installation of 8-11 towers mid-sea, each 50 metres to 150 metres tall. The Elephanta Caves witnesses an annual footfall of around 7 lakh tourists. It’s one of the most prominent sightseeing spots of Mumbai. It currently takes nearly an hour for the 10km long cruise from Mumbai and vice-versa. Jammu has India’s highest ropeway in Patnitop. 

Mumbai To Get Longest Ropeway In India From Sewri To Elephanta Caves

Mumbai’s longest ropeway is under construction and it will take you to Elephanta Caves within 40 minutes. But what’s the best part? This rope-way will be over the sea and it’s going to be 8 km long! Mumbai Port Trust took this project up. The cable car can accommodate 20 people at a time. Tourists can get a picturesque view of the sea, pink flamingos and the famous mudflats as they travel through the 8km long ropeway from Sewri to Elephanta Caves.

Mumbai Ropeway Project Includes A Viewing Gallery, Entertainment Deck & Even A Submerged Restaurant

Your journey will begin at Sewri Fort in the east coast of Mumbai and the final destination will be across the harbour and in Raigad district of the island. There will be one station through the journey with a city tower. The tower is going to have a viewing gallery, an entertainment deck, hanging restaurants with a glass base, a submerged restaurant and many other facilities. The elderly and the disabled can also smoothly take a ride on the gondola to reach Elephanta Caves.  Currently, you will need to hop onto a ferry ride to reach Elephanta Caves, but the ropeway will surely be a game-changer!
