What Is It?

The museum is run by Sulabh International and is dedicated to the importance of sanitation in the country. According to Time Magazine, this is one of the weirdest museums among 10 museums of the world! The name says it all right? Established in 1992, this museum has artifacts displayed from about 50 countries and are bifurcated into three categories- ancient, medieval and modern.

It’s really a walk through loads and loads of information that I’m pretty sure one would have been ignorant of. Who reads up on toilet history, right?

But this museum gives an insight in to all that you don’t know and all that you should know! It
exhibits artifacts collected all the way from 3000 BC till the end of 20th century!

There’s a replica of a commode in the form of a treasure chest that dates back to the British medieval period. It looks like you have lock yourself up in a wooden box to use a pot! Another interesting display is a replica of a toilet used by King Louis XIV, that is touted to have been used by him while he was holding court, just so he could save on time! There’s also a gold and silver toilet and a two-storey toilet that was used during the 1920’s in the US.

This museum is out of the box, or shall we say ‘out of the pot’? This is the kinda’ ‘shit’ you’ll see for
the first time, and it’s worth a stroll!
