China is currently facing the worst Covid-19 outbreak in 2 years. On March 13, China reported 3100 new covid-19 cases in a single day. This is the highest figure since the outbreak at the end of 2019. Some local authorities revealed the surge in Covid-19 cases can be due to the Omicron variant. Hong Kong is witnessing a 300 per cent rise in flight bookings. With a rise in Covid-19 cases in China, residents of Hong Kong are seeking one-way flights to fly out of the country.  ForwardKeys, a Spain-based travel data company witnessed a steep rise in outbound bookings in Hong Kong. Tighter Covid-19 restrictions, stricter vaccine checks and public gatherings limited from four to two, people in Hong Kong are demanding one-way flights to escape the stringent rules.

70 Percent Of Travellers Booked One-Way Tickets

Shopping malls and supermarkets in Hong Kong permit visitors only after strict vaccine checks. Olivier Ponti, ForwardKeys’ vice president of insights revealed to The Standard that over 70 per cent of travellers have booked one-way tickets from Hong Kong to escape from the surge in Covid cases. This number has drastically increased from the previous 26 per cent of the pre-pandemic level.
